An NYC dentist shared four common mistakes that can harm your teeth. Dr. Gerry Curatola, who founded Rejuvenation Dentistry, wants you to steer clear of these habits:

  1. Mouthwash: Curatola believes mouthwash is made by companies and may cause problems like teeth staining, disrupting the healthy bacteria in your mouth, and possibly even increasing the risk of cancer.
  2. Root Canals: This treatment involves removing decay from a tooth, but Curatola warns that keeping dead tissue inside your mouth can lead to issues with your immune system.
  3. Charcoal toothpaste: While it’s popular for whitening teeth and freshening breath, Curatola says it’s too harsh and can wear away your enamel, making your teeth sensitive.
  4. Metal Fillings: Although not as common nowadays, Curatola advises against them due to the potential release of mercury vapor, which you could breathe in. (Also, steer clear of most TikTok trends and hockey, as they’re not great for your teeth either!)
