It looks like Eminem is taking a deep dive into the world of “super fans” with his new documentary – Stans. The film gets its name from his 2000’s hit song Stan. He will be co-producing the documentary, and it will be directed by Steven Leckart.
According to the synopsis, the film will showcase the “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of super fandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.”
I can already picture the opening scene of the documentary – a dark room, lit only by the glow of a computer screen, as a die-hard fan writes their 100th letter to their idol, pouring their heart out in hopes of a response. The lengths some fans will go to in order to connect with their favorite artists is truly astounding.
I’m ready to see the level of dedication and borderline obsession that these fans must exhibit to earn the title of a “Stan”. But hey, who am I to judge? We’ve all had our moments of being a little over the top when it comes to our favorite artists. Whether it’s plastering our walls with posters, memorizing every lyric, or attending every concert. Music has a way of touching our souls and connecting us in ways that few other things can. For me, I have no shame in admitting I am in fact a Taylor Swift super fan and I have been since ’06. But, I think this is going to showcase the darker side of things and how far some people go to get that response from their favorite artists. I’m very curious to see how this rolls out! I will 100% be watching it as soon as it comes out. I loved his movie 8 Mile, so I can only imagine that this one will be just as good.
It will be very interesting to see the shining light on this sometimes slightly terrifying phenomenon. Can’t wait to see what insights this documentary will bring.
Stans will be out later this year. There has been no exact release date announced just yet.
