Roy Shortt from Lloydminster, Alberta, is experiencing a wave of peace and relief after discovering he won $1 million in the recent Lotto Max draw. Shortt, who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS), was completely taken aback by his luck in the September 17 draw.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw it,” Shortt shared, chuckling as he recounted the moment to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). “I must have scanned that ticket on the app a dozen times. I even double-checked it in-store just to be sure!”

Known for purchasing Lotto Max tickets when jackpots soar, Shortt is thrilled that this win has opened up new doors for him. “For the first time, owning a home feels possible,” he said. “I’m on the lookout for something accessible because of my condition. I want to ensure I can navigate my home comfortably, especially if my health changes.”

The financial boost comes with a much-needed sense of security. “We’ve discussed it at length, and this win brings me a tremendous sense of relief regarding the uncertainties ahead,” Shortt explained. “It’s comforting to know I can save some of this money as a safety net in case I can’t work in the future.”

But saving money isn’t the only exciting prospect on Shortt’s horizon. He’s also eager to finally meet his online gaming friends from across Canada and the United States. “I play a lot of online games, and I have some fantastic friends I’ve never met in person,” he grinned. “I can’t believe I’ll finally get to meet them! I have Christmas ornaments sent by one of their kids, and they’re displayed all year round.”

Shortt purchased his winning ticket at North Border Husky and Car Wash, located at 5906 50 Avenue in Lloydminster. He won one of the Maxmillions prizes by correctly matching the numbers: 8, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, and 39.
